Carrie Veil creates visceral paintings depicting the relationship between the body, chronic pain, and their intersecting identity as a sapphic nonbinary person. Using a mixture of overlapping styles of semi-realism, illustration, and collage, they represent a 3-dimensional perspective through the physical, mental, and emotional. Their work relies on symbology to add contextual depth beyond the subject matter, inviting viewers to investigate further. Currently studying at The University of Memphis, They are pursuing their BFA in Studio Arts. Fellow artists who influence their work include but are not limited to Beth Cavener, Gawki, Firelai Baez, Michele Petrelli, and Rosie Crompton.
